Overview

Szeged is a city with county rights, the third most populous settlement in Hungary, the largest settlement and center of the Southern Great Plain, the seat of Csongrád-Csanád County and Szeged District at the confluence of the Tisza and the Maros rivers. Since it has the highest number of hours of sunshine in Hungary, Szeged is widely called the city of sunshine, with a population of 159.000.

Szeged's landmarks include the Dóm Square, where various cultural events, concerts and fairs are held every year. Szeged's Dóm Square is home to Hungary's largest open-air theatre. The Szeged Open-Air Festival is Hungary's largest (4.000-seat) open-air theatre, and one of the most significant summer theatre festivals in Central Europe.

Other landmarks in Szeged include the Votive Church (Dóm), Szeged Kárász Street (pedestrian street), Szeged Széchelyi Square where the Szeged City Hall is located, Szeged Reök Palace, Szeged Wildlife Park, Szeged Botanical Garden, the Aquapolis Szeged Sunbathing and Beach, Szeged Anna Bath and Szeged National Theatre.

 

The festival is held in the most beautiful part of Szeged.

The Móra Ferenc Museum is located in the heart of Szeged, at the junction of the Tisza River and the Belvárosi Bridge. Its patinated building is a defining part of the cityscape. The institution is an outstanding cultural center of the region.

ACCOMMODATION:

Mórahahalom city - Festival Centre - Szilágyi Mihály Hostel: The festival center is located in the town of Mórahalom, a 2-story building with 44 rooms, capable of accommodating a total of 152 people. The Mórahalmi college was handed over on 23 November 2023. The building has an elevator, so you can easily go up to the upper floors. The entire building can be centrally cooled in summer. Each room has 4 person (2 – 2 beds). Each room (for 4 people) has its own shower, television, toilet and refrigerator. 

Makó city - Festival Centre - Pulitzer József Hostel:
The festival centre can be found in the centre of Makó town, it is a 4-floor building, it has 88 rooms, it is available for altogether 225 persons. There is an elevator in the building, so it is easy to go to the upper floors as well. The rooms are 2-3-4-bedrooms. Every room has an own shower, toilet and a small fridge. The festival center functions as a 3-star tourist accommodation in Makó.

TRANSFERS:

  • Hungarian bus: (if they arrive by plane) – 2800 euró/Bus – 1 bus maximum 22 person.
  • Hungarian bus: (if they arrive by plane) – 5600 euró/Bus – 1 bus maximum 49 person.
    The bus cost is paid by the group. The bus can be used only within the festival program frames

Votive Church

The Votive Church of Our Lady of Hungary, also known as the Szeged Cathedral, is one of the most iconic landmarks of Szeged. It is a magnificent example of Hungarian art nouveau architecture and one of the largest churches in Hungary

Dom Square

The Dom Square, or Dóm tér in Hungarian, is the main square of Szeged and a hub of activity in the city. Located in the heart of Szeged, the square is surrounded by several important landmarks, including the Votive Church, the Reök Palace Art Museum, and the Dömötör Tower.

Széchenyi Square

Széchenyi Square is another must-visit destination in Szeged, located just a short walk from the Dom Square. This vibrant and bustling square is named after István Széchenyi, a famous Hungarian politician and writer, and is home to several important historical and cultural landmarks.

The Reok Palace

The Reök Palace is a beautiful art nouveau building in Szeged that now serves as an art museum. It was built in the early 20th century and is known for its stunning stained glass windows, ornate decorations, and intricate carvings
